Critical
Path by Buckminster Fuller
Critical Path is a life changing book. Buckminster Fuller, the great
inventor/philosopher/scientist/statistician goes into great detail outlining
how the human race evolved from the basic premise “there isn’t
enough to go around, so my tribe is going to take it and horde it at
all costs”. He equally details how this belief is now disastrously
outdated and untrue. He irrefutably proves there was enough to go around
through existing technologies of the 1980’s when the book was
written. That by installing sustainable power generation networks, reclaiming
valuable resources that we call pollution and using appropriate building
and transportation technologies, all people could live comfortably in
peace and prosperity. But banking institutions, governments and corporations
are knowingly or unknowingly impeding or sabotaging the critical technologies
to do more with less and that basic business accounting practices are
vastly short sighted and benefit only the very few.
It has been over 20 years since Critical Path was written and technology
is far more advanced, and yet we suffer more than ever with the dogma,
technology and ignorance of the past. Order this book, read and re-read
it. It advocates a peaceful “design” revolution plan that
can change the world, and the time is now to implement it. |

Engines
of Creation by Eric Drexler
The most dramatic and revolutionary changes for all of humanity will
undoubtedly arise from the research and outgrowth of nanotechnology,
or molecular technology, which involves the manipulation of individual
atoms and molecules. Eric Drexler, the scientist that first gained attention
with the concept of the solar sail and planetary travel, is better known
for his promotion nanotechnolgy, in fact, many regard him as the father
of nanotechnology. In Engines of Creation, Drexler writes about the
far reaching implications and potential of this technology and how important
for everyone to partake in its development.
The power to completely and cheaply harness the structure of matter
will effect every aspect of the human condition, and although it is
important to speculate on the positive implications for science, medicine,
energy, and ending poverty, the possibility of abuse is equally disturbing.
None of the benefits will be realized if we fail to help guide in the
development of this technology and work out a reasonable system of governance
in the nanotech era. "Engines of Creation" encourages the
debate on how we will deal with the new possibilities, both positive
and negative, that arise from man's ability to manipulate molecules. |

Linked - How Everything is Connected to Everything Else Physicist Albert-Laszlo Barabasi presents the next step in complexity theory-from understanding chaos to practical applications. Barbasi explains networks of individual nodes connected via complex but understandable relationships. The AIDS epedemic to terror cells, the Internet to the human brain. This book is thought provoking because it demonstrates how a thing or idea can spread and effectively change the world. |
